What is the criteria for selecting a cabinet? Determine the class of flammable or combustible liquids you need to house safely. OSHA divides liquids into classes based on their characteristics. Refer to 29CFR 1910.106(a)(18) for a breakdown of liquid classes. Specifically designed cabinets are also available for storing acids and corrosives. Although they may look similar to flammable cabinets, acid cabinets are treated with special coatings to prevent rapid deterioration caused by corrosive liquids and vapors. Make sure that the liquids being stored are compatible with the cabinets construction. How is cabinet capacity determined? Cabinet capacity is determined by the number of gallons requiring storage. There are limitations as to the number of gallons of specific flammable storage in a single cabinet (See NFPA 4-3.1). How do I compare cabinet features? All flammable storage cabinets must meet the construction specifications of NFPA Code 30 and OSHA 26 CFR 19010.106. The Uniform Fire Code 79.202 requires a self-closing door and may be required in some municipalities. Review all local, state and federal regulations before choosing a cabinet. Other features such as door styles, construction materials, dimension, vents and adjustable shelves may vary among manufacturers. Look for the features which will improve your workplace productivity. (Note: Local and/or State Codes may dictate door style.) Are Follansbee Cabinets compliant? Yes, OSHA and NFPA Code 30 and our Self-Closing Models meet UFC 79. Recently, Follansbee finalized securing FM approval on vitually all of our most popular models. How many gallons can I store? It depends on the class of Flammable or Combustible liquids. No more than 60 gallons of class I and II flammable liquids should be stored in any safety cabinet at one time. Are your cabinets vented? Yes, threaded vents, complete with flash arresters are located on the top right and left bottom of the cabinet. Check local, state and federal regulations to determine if exterior venting is required in your area. Is a self-closing cabinet required in my area? California requires self-closing units. We urge you to check local regulations in regard to your area since regulations are frequently changed and updated. Can I store sulfuric acid in an acid storage cabinet? No, also NOT suggested for Nitric and certain Phenols. Can I store gasoline in a paint and ink cabinet? Only paints and inks should be stored in the Red colored Paint and Ink cabinet. The Yellow colored cabinets are intended for the storage of gasoline and other non-paint and ink flammable liquids. Are Follansbee Safety Cabinets grounded? Yes, a ground connector is on all cabinets. Do your cabinets have 1 1/2" air space all around? Yes Is your acid and corrosive cabinet really acid resistant? Our lead free epoxy coating provides a superior barrier against acidic attack. Do your Safety Cabinets come with a Warranty? Yes - The safety cabinet is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of (90) days from the date of delivery to the original purchaser. What do you mean by class of liquids? Class I - Flash point below 73 degrees F; Boiling point below 100 degrees F. |
